Once again I’ve made lingerie set for New Year’s eve.. You can see my last years project here.. This time I came across this cute red mesh with hearts.. I immediately knew that it would be perfect for this occasion.. Also, I didn’t have problem finding elastic lace and straps that would go with red mesh.. Making this set is super easy and quick.. I sewed everything on regular sewing machine (no serger)..

Couple days ago, when I woke up and saw the sun coming through my windows, I thought, oh no, one more hot sunny day.. Where has winter gone? How can I sew winter clothes when it’s like spring outside? How can I wear all the stuff I knitted when it’s more than 10°C? I love winter and I’m really missing all the happiness that it brings.. Back to the hot day.. It inspired me to make a summer dress for which I had 3 hours.. My plan was to pick a simple dress pattern, combine it with a fabric from my stash, and to finish with sewing until 3 PM when my sister comes home from work so we can go outside and take photos while there’s daylight.. Sadly, I needed 4 hours to finish this dress.. Photo shoot had to be delayed for next day.. On the other hand, sewing a semi lined dress in 4 hours is a kind of success.. Especially after my 2 month break from sewing..

While going through my winter wardrobe I’ve noticed that most of my sweaters are gray and black.. That’s why I wanted to make a skirt in brighter color.. I went to the fabric store to find a piece of wool in remnant bin, and the only one I’ve found was this pinkish coral.. Of course, I couldn’t resist when I saw this light gray wool and bought it too.. While looking these two fabrics together I got the idea to make a long sleeve top that would go with the skirt.. That’s how this project started..

Now when archaeological excavations are finished I finally have time to show you first of two and a half projects I’ve made in last 40 days.. It’s not unusual for me to bring something to knit during free time.. Some of my projects that I’ve already shared on Kollabora (1, 2, 3) traveled with me on excavations and back home.. This time while I was packing I couldn’t decide for which kind of project will I have time and energy to make, so I packed one of my UFO’s and two different yarns of wool.. My UFO are mittens which I’m making without pattern.. Too complicated project for free time after spending all day freezing on fieldwork..

Soon as I heard that I’ll be on fieldwork in November, I started thinking about my new stylish while digging looks.. The problem is that it’s impossible to be stylish and warm during cold winter days when we’re spending 8-9 hours working outside and temperatures are in best case between 0-10°C.. The main thing are layers of clothes so I wouldn’t freeze (too much).. That’s also the only time I’m wearing pants and jeans.. I don’t want to have problems with my knees in future.. Instead of making a dress for fieldwork, I decided to make something for those short warm hours when we are doing our documentation work..
Two days before my trip in the middle of nowhere, I remembered my plan for baby doll dress version of Deer&Doe’s Plantain t-shirt.. Back in January, when the pattern was released I wanted to enter the challenge with a dress version.. Making a dress out of a shirt pattern is “been there, done that” for me.. As usual, I delayed making it, and when I saw paunnet’s version I was not interested in sewing the dress any more (I didn't see my dress as original any more).. She also has a tutorial.. The idea was forgotten, until I looked into the box with my UFOs where the fabric and already prepared pattern were still waiting.. Because the pattern has the seam allowances included, I traced the size 34 and sewed the dress with my smaller allowances.. The fabric was a find from remnant bin.. Two pieces of some kind of knit fabric, and each piece was about 70-80cm in length.. I’m not crazy about it, but it has nice colors and it’s soft and cozy.. The fabric had some print irregularities which I had to avoid while placing the pattern.. I made the neckline less open at the front.. This is one of those 2-3 hours dresses.. Very easy and fast project.. The pattern is very good for every beginner in sewing the knit fabrics.. I didn’t read the instructions, how to sketches were enough for me.. The dress is my favorite right now (it’s not like I have many other options :P)..

Here is one simple, but special dress.. The fabric was a gift from Mokosha.. It was sitting in her stash for a long time, and she didn’t know what to do with it.. The fabric was too dark for her taste and she thought that I might like it.. Lucky me :) I loved the fabric at first glance.. It’s hard to see at only one look all the elements someone doodled for this design.. There are dark hair girl and her eyelashes, a tree, butterflies, roses, stripes, faces, hands.. True example of horror vacui on the fabric.. Only problem was length of the fabric – only 1 m!! The fabric is some kind of viscose.. I wanted to make a dress for autumn.. Pattern #133 from Burda 12/2012 proved to be the best choice for busy prints.. It was my fourth time that I’ve used it (1, 2, 3).. One half of 1 m fabric I saved for the skirt, and from the other half I made the bodice and the sleeves.. There was not enough fabric for long sleeves, but I didn’t want to leave them as ½ sleeves.. I added pieces of about 15 cm to the sleeves so now they are covering my elbows.. Thanks to busy print, that seam is barely visible.. The skirt is just a gathered rectangle..

I’m aware that it’s October, and everyone is making warmer clothes, but I’m still in summer mode.. It’s very hot here for this time of year, at least 20°C every day.. I decided to make one more summer dress for which I have made a muslin over a year ago.. Very cute button-down dress with open back, straps and full skirt.. Meanwhile, I have changed many ideas for fabrics that would look good with this dress, and in the end settled with this yellow-blue plaid cotton..
The pattern is #122 from Burda 05/2001.. This Burda issue is from those years when we didn’t have translated instructions in Serbian.. Everything was in German.. All those older issues always remind me of my beginnings in sewing when I used instructions only to see which pattern pieces I have to trace.. After that I would figure out on my own how to put them together.. I kept that habit, but from time to time I try to read instructions to see if there is something interesting (it’s always boring)..

When I first saw the pattern for a dress #112 from Burda06/2014 I knew that I want to make it from lovely black rayon with bird print which I used for this skirt.. The silhouette has some strange ‘90s feel.. It reminds me of dresses my mom had at that time.. Reason more to make one for myself..
After taking a better look at the pattern pieces of the dress, I was afraid to cut that beautiful fabric.. All bodice pieces are cut on bias – neckline and sleeves.. My first thought was that my choice of drapey fabric will easily stretch out while sewing all those seams.. I had to change my plan and sacrifice another fabric.. Couple years ago I was happiest girl ever, when I bought one and only piece of rayon with polka dots and bobby pins.. I was keeping it for something special.. In the meanwhile, that fabric reappeared in stores, and now every seamstress in Belgrade with love for cute prints has it.. Since the fabric can still be found in the stores, decision was made – if I ruin the bobby pins fabric, I’ll go and buy more of it!!

I’m aware that it’s autumn, and time for making warmer clothes, but I’m still in a mood for summer sewing.. The idea for this dress I had a month or two ago, and only now I’ve found time to make it real.. I didn’t want to leave it for next season and in the meantime forget about it.. You may recognize the fabric from my La Femme project.. I was left with enough fabric for a sheath dress.. The fabric is perfect for it, cotton with a little stretch.. My idea was to make a sheath dress with scooped back..
